Hi everybody,

I saw on e-rail that apart from A261, MTB is planning to release A254 loco as well, and from what I see on the graph, with a slightly different appearance (blue stripe over the side grilles, ?more light blue livery).

I have seen photos of several Ganz locos but cannot understand which painting represents which era:
A258 as depicted above in Székesfehérvár in 1983 or A255 in Volos 1982 look identical to the current A261 MTB model but the A251 when leaving construction factory has the blue stripe over the side grilles. Furthermore, some OSE locos (A 261, A254 in 1999 in Volos) have a different variant (blue underframe and boggies - same as AA's, with and without the blue stripe), but I cannot understand if this is a late 90's-2000 livery or was present to some locos already from mid 80s (?A261).

Does anyone have any further comment on that?

1. Which era do you think these two liveries represent (80's Vs late 90's or not necessarily)?
Fuggerth's A258 and A 261 are a perfect example of the two different livery versions I am talking about but Fuggerth categorized both to era IV/V.

2. Would that mean that A 254 model will have blue under-frame and boggies as well?
I emailed MTB but received no answer so far.

Hi Georgie and welcome again.

In the original livery lower sides, frame and bogies were grey.
At some point that, assuming from photos, I think it was 1988-89, grey color was replaced by pale/light blue in a different than the main color shade.
It seems that by 1990 (changing point between eras IV/V) not all locos have been repainted and I don't know if and when that happened for all of them.
So, probably, Fuggerth correctly categorized both of them to era IV/V.

About the MTB 254 livery, you better ask erail

I would like to contribute three photos of hellenic M41, taken at Ganz factories during delivery period in 1983.
These photos came on my archive from Mr Christodoulos Christodoulou, founder of OSE museum, who was member in acceptance comitee.
He told me that they tried to find steep raillines in Hungary to perfom the acceptance trials.
Mr Christodoulou is a very significant man for railways history in Greece.
