Well, a new episode on portuguese tracks. As some of you have seen in my Facebook profile, I came back to Portugal-Lisabone- some weekends after my visit to South region, so work is getting so acumulated!!!
So, we take the 400 serie DMU, 'azulinhas' bound to Faro, which is the adminisitrative capital of Algarve region.
- A pair of 400 serie DMU, called 'azulinhas' waiting for their services at Vila Real de Santo Antonio
The line, single track one, runs horizontally from Vila Real de Santo Antonio to Lagos, a town in the western place of the Iberian Peninsula (where Spain and Portugal happily lives), in a beautifil seaside running close to the beaches. The line, built at the end of the 19th century by the 'Companhia do Sul' has its typical arquitecture, so integrated in Algarve's one.
Some examples of that stations that I suppose you'll like to see
- ConcenÇao station (Virgin of the Inmaculate Conception' station, as direct translation)
- Tavira station
I'll post more details if you are interestedin those things from Portugal.
So, we arrive to Faro.
There are some other intermediate stations where they can cross trains, but, normally it's done at Faro, because it's facilities are preparired for and also, because a major rebuilt of the old station was done to create a new terminal for trains bound to Lisabonne.
Originally till this recent years, Vila Real de Santo Antonio was the departure station for trains to Lisabonne...
First, from Vila Real de Santo Antonio-Guadiana, the river terminal as said in previous post...
- A diesel engine CP 1500 serie with a service to Lisabonne, from Vila Real de Santo Antonio-Guadiana, river terminus. Picture taken from Flickr by DWB photos
Afterwards, from Vila Real de Santo Antonio terminus...
- 1501 on arrival at Villa Real with the overnight '99, picture taken years ago from Internet but I don't have its author
As seen in this picture, engine is painted with older scheme. Portuguese painted one loco of each serie in it's original scheme to celebrate the 50th aniversary of the diesel traction in their railways, so you can just find some beautiful 'pictures' when you came into the station to catch the train!
And now from Faro new terminus, adjoining to the old station building as seen in this picture
- New terminus facilities at Faro station
Well, it's enough for you today? Much more can be shown of Faro station and trains...let's see if you're interested in!
