Actually La901 shown in the pic was a StEG, not a Skoda...

Can anybody from the group living in Thessaloniki spot any retired drivers (sorry, engineers...) who could relate their experiences with the Skodas? these engines were so popular that there are certainly people who have been working them and who could share with us a few memories and anecdots...

Before I left Greece, I tried to locate any La drivers living in Southern Greece, but apparently these engines came very rarely south of Larissa already by the middle 60s...

Cheers,

the same photo of the Λα from Kalemkeris book that Christo posted before,
this one has the caption: ''1946, the first train that arrives at Halkida after the Liberation'' it took 2 years for that!

Hi everyone,

Has anybody been RECENTLY in Tithorea?

At the old locomotive dump site, there used to be a Lamda Alpha on the turntable. This particular locomotive has been involved in an serious accident back in the 60s, and was never rebuilt; both members of the locomotive crew were killed in the accident (one was burned alive...) and the engine was even considered to be haunted!

The last time I saw that locomotive was in 1981, but it probably fell victim of the mid 80s scrapping wave. Does anybody know if the locomotive still exists?

It was Λα 908 which was destroyed on 14/06/1966 when she crashed with A 308 near Lilea. Her tender survived in better condition and was transported to MAI where its parts were probably used for other operative Λαs.

Both engine and tender were scrapped during the ~1984 scrapping wave.
