411 - 430 ex-DB BR221

Hi all I was thinking to publish all the photos of paint job after the finishing of the model but Christo is too fast
So first I disassembly the model I remove all small details and clear plastic parts, you have to be very careful with those parts. Before I start striping the paint I make a small mark so I can recognise the no1 side of the cover.
Then I use isopropyl alcohol for stripping and an old toothbrush. Always do this job in well ventilated room and use mask and cloves.
Before any paint application you have to use a primer, I use enamel grey primer from Model Master.

I let the model to dry for two days and then with the airbrush I aply the first colour. I haven't find a model colour similar to A412 beige so I use car colour, the only difference and difficulty using car colours is that they need hardener and you have to be very precise with the quantity. Sorry I forgot to take a photo of this step

Next and most difficult step masking, I always use a new brand new razor blade and lot of coffee, photo shows all the tools that I use for this task (coffee no shown)

Finally the model painted with the two colors, I left the model to dry for two days and then I apply the decals, I use Microscale Set solution before the decal and after the installation I use Microscale Sol solution all this will help the decals to soften and “follow” all details.

Here you can see the model with the decals

I install and paint all small details and then I start the weathering with the airbrush, I use 4 colors for this step, all of them are mixes that I made except black color, I spray first the lower surface and bogies with the “sand brown” color and then with the “red brown” color then I spray the top of the model with a “blue grey” color and then with the black you can see the results and the colors that I use (V is for Vallejo). I leave the model to dry for one day and then I spray all the model with a gloss varnish this will seal all my previous works and will prepare the surface for the next step

The next step is wash I use Ammo Mig dark wash for this task, I apply wash almost everywhere the result is little bit scary. I will leave the model for one day like this, so tomorrow more photos

I use a linen cloth to remove most of the already dry wash. No thinner required just the cloth. If you forget the wash one more day then it is mandatory to use thinner (white spirit)

I use a brush and smoothly remove some wash from the grilles to simulate streaking

I spray the model with Vallejo’s satin varnish and I leave the model to dry for one day tomorrow I will put all parts together and ship the loco to Christo
