I forgot to mention (my brain has a certain mileage...) that on display was also a model of the Siemens-Jung diesel...
I would strongly recommend our SFS friends to carefully preserve those models 'like their own eyes' , since we may discover one day that they are the only available sources for modeling!
And, since we are talking about the Craiovas, allow me to mention an old man's anecdote...
When the Craiovas came to our beloved country, they were so trouble-plagued that the presence of Romanian technicians in Rentis was a very regular feature.
At some point, a greek engineer asked his romanian colleagues how come these locomotives were so bad. I should mention here to our younger friends that in those days all commercial transactions with Eastern European countries were carried out using a 'clearing' process: a certain financial level was agreed for the transaction, and each party was supplying whatever they had for export to the agreed total price in exchange to the goods they received. Now, in those happy days of the late 70s, the main exported items of our beloved country were fruits and vegetables...
So, it is reported that the romanian technician replied, 'Don't forget, you gave us tomatoes, we gave you potatoes in exchange; if you had given us dollars, you would have received locomotives in exchange...'
Also, for your information, an alternative was proposed then: Electroputere had proposed to supply locos similar to the DR 118 CoCo diesels (the 'U-Boote'). Needless to mention here that these were also among the most trouble-plagued engines of the DR before they were Germanized!!
Is it necessary to mention here also the case of the BR class 56 ??
