AA71 - AA90 FERROSTAL ESSLINGEN DMU with TRAILERS

Do those DMUs has 1st class compartiment? Were they designed for local and regional traffic, as they had only 2nd class, as seen in photos?

These sets, as far as I know, were designed as intercity sets between Alexandroupolis - Salonica - Athens. They had no 1st class but they were classified as Express and therefor commanded a hefty supplement. You needed to be "first class" to afford the supplement.
Later, as they grew old. they were demoted to do local services.

Actually, they were classified as 'ΥΠΕΡΤΑΧΕΙΑ΄when they were first delivered; their main task was Athina-Thessaloniki, and they were capable of running that distance in 6 hours (which is quite remarkable, given the state of the track in those days...)
Rumor went that Onassis, who owned Olympic Airways in those days, had complained to SEK for unfair competition; the OA DC6 took 3 hours to fly from Ellinikon to Mikra. Subsequently, the travel time was increased to 8 hours, and it remained such until reduced again in the middle 70s...

Good evening to all.
In 1962 Purchased 20 vehicles type 2 Bdh power 800 hp which gave AA.71-90 series. Along purchased 10 trailers of the same type (αρίθ.Αβφπτ 151-160) who had 1st and 2nd place and had a canteen. The vehicles were driving controls at both ends and seating for 68 passengers. The trailers had 18 seats in the 1st class and 28 seats in the second position.
The final speed reached 105 kilometers. Created so triple compositions made ​​in the ultra-axis Piraeus - Thessaloniki - Drama. Served with local services such as Piraeus - Chalkis, Thessaloniki - Larissa Alexandroupolis - Drama.
Today, only the AA72 as a museum in Alexandroupolis as well as trailers vehicle (P153) in Drama
