Hi All, and a Happy Easter to All friends celebrating it today!
I'll try to rekindle the fires on the good old Za issue...
We have all been conditioned to think that our good old Za306 is the only example remaining in the world, of a DeGlehn compound, similar to the Badische IV. Actually, there is a magnificent example of a very similar locomotive, no 1314 of the PO Midi, perfectly restored and proudly displayed at the Mulhouse Railway museum. I am not trying to promote that museum, but I visited it some time ago, and I can assure that it is worth the trip!!
So, 1314 is, just like the Za, based on the Badische IV and was built by SACM Grafenstaden.
The museum curators state that the locomotive never had boiler bands, but the rest is fairly accurate because upon withdrawal, the machine has been very carefully preserved.
We can only dream that our Za306 might one day look like the 1314!!
