Hi everyone,
I am relatively new in the Forum, but quite old as a Greek Railway Enthusiast...
I would like to share with you a few thoughts, triggered by the pix I saw in the Forum: this is not really an item for a discussion, it's rather an advice to the younger members of our group.
It is now possible to find an important amount of photographic documentation about SEK/OSE, both on the web and in private collections and archives; still, what I believe is still missing, is vital information and chronicles remembered by active and retired railwaymen. Just to give you an example, I have been searching for years for the approximate withdrawal dates of the Kb and the La, but nobody has been able to provide any information. Furthermore, I am not sure if there are any retired SEK drivers who can recall having driven a La, about which I heard very often SEK staff during the 60s saying they were probably the best locomotives in the network.
Any information about older stock or operational practices is now becoming important and should, in my point of view, be carefully recorded and preserved.
I would like to suggest to those of you who have contacts in Greece with retired SEK/OSE staff, to start recording old stories, as these are told by the people themselves. Imagine that when those people are gone, the stories and information will be lost forever.
And, don't forget, we can always share stories in the Forum(s)!!
Cheers,
Joseph
