It might therefore be a crew vehicle of some sort, although why would they need bed accomodation - do those tankers run long distances?

No. These sleeping coaches have a crew compartment.

I think that this EN sleeper was the 1st Greek carriage model produced. Anyway, when I introduced it for sale some criticized that the roofs should have been silver but I insisted that they were painted white and later the white faded with dirt into some silver shade. This photo shows this clearly. They also said that I should have modelled the brown window curtains but unfortunately I did not, since that was not an option with Sachsenmodelle. Some again were convinced that there was no car 114-1 but they were not correct.

Spring of 1992, Frankie has covered pretty well the introduction in service of the first Greek built sleeping coach, 5173 50-80 100 at Agios Ioannis ;)
